Who do we hire?

People who are passionate, reliable, fun, love kids, and have a sweet, energetic and bubbly personality

Never ordinary.

Always unique.

Our state-of-the-art studios

Our mobile photography studios are stocked with everything you would need for a professional photography shoot. We provide amazing experiences for our customers in the convenience of their local shopping centre.

What is the role you are hiring for?

Most of the roles we have available at Gotcha! involve working on our mobile Photography Studios. The life of a studio team member involves multi-tasking lots of different things.

  • Setting up and packing down the photography studio in new shopping centre locations every two weeks

  • Approaching every potential customer who walks past our studios and converting into a photography sitting

  • Explaining our product offering and how the experience works

  • Helping customers fill in paperwork and get ready for their shoot

  • Getting children ready for the photo-shoot

  • Assisting the Photographers in changing children, getting smiles and setting up poses

  • Photographing children

  • Completing end of day paperwork and uploading images back to head office

Depending on your level of experience and skill set, you will normally start with the tasks at the top of this list, and as you learn and are trained can advance to some of the more complex tasks such as assisting and photographing children. Regardless of where you end up, we all work as a team to ensure we maximise sitting numbers and everyone is responsible for bringing customers into the studio.

You have to be prepared to travel around.

All of our photography studios have two types of what we refer to as promotions (a two-week shopping centre booking). For the most part these locations are booked within major capital cities and is likely where your home is (called a local promotion). During these local promotions you would be expected to have your own accommodation and make your way to and from shopping centres around your home city.

However, we do regularly go to regional areas (away promotions), and this is where the location is too far from your home to travel to and from work each day. When you work on these away promotions we provide accommodation and a company car. It’s a great way to save money while experiencing new places and meeting new people.

If you are applying for a job on one of our photography studios, you must be prepared to get yourself to and from the local promotions, and be prepared to travel away from home for up to 4-6 weeks at a time when we do away promotions.

Things you need to consider.

You must be willing to travel away from home for up to 6 weeks at a time

You must be capable of standing long periods of time, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting

Confidence

You have to approach large numbers of people every day in the centre

Resilience

If you take things to heart, get easily anxious or can’t deal with rejection then this is not for you

We are expanding

And have lots of opportunities at all levels in the Company both domestically and internationally!

Travelers or school leavers?

Absolutely! In fact some of our most successful staff are people who have just left school, or people from overseas working on a traveling holiday visa. If your interested in seeing as much of Australia as possible, we can even arrange a special long term run of centres that go through some amazing places like the Northern Territory, Tasmania or Western Australia.

What if I have no experience?

That’s fine, we provide all the training you need! You just need to bring a great attitude and strong work ethic and we can teach you the rest. When you start with Gotcha! you will begin in our studios as what we call a “Promotions Ambassador”. You will speak with the mums and dads as they walk past the studio, show them what we do and encourage them to have a photoshoot with us. Once you have this down pact, we will start training you in Photography. Ultimately our studios work as small teams and everyone is responsible for bringing in customers to the studio. Some people depending on their skill set will naturally gravitate more towards Photography, but at the end of the day, we all work as one big team to get the job done! If you have existing Photography experience, your progression to “shooting” will likely be faster than if you have not worked in the industry before.

FAQs

During COVID-19 is travel still happening?

Yes. If there is a restriction due to COVID-19 we may need to restrict some travel, but generally speaking our studios are operating as normal, and we expect this to continue into 2022.

What are some of the targets and what happens if you do not meet them?

We expect on average 15 photography sittings per studio per day and 20 on late night trade. Each sitting goes for around 10-15 minutes. These numbers are definitely achievable but you need to work hard and be focused. If you are looking for a job where you just take it easy this is not for you, but if you like your day to go quickly with face-paced work, and want to maximise your earning potential then you would enjoy this environment. If you are struggling to meet performance expectations, we have a Training and Development Manager who will work with you to provide the skills and knowledge to be successful. You just need to bring a great attitude, resilient nature, and strong work ethic.

What does a typical day look like on the studios?

A normal day at Gotcha will start with opening the studio at 8.45 am and setting up all the photography equipment. We have a quick 10-minute Zoom “toolbox meeting” to set the plan for the day, and then we hit the floor to get our first customer in. We help customers fill out their paperwork, choose the scenes they like, prepare the kids for the photo shoot, help change backgrounds and props and give the customers and kids a great experience.

How frequent is traveling and is it mandatory?

Yes, in order to do this job you need to be willing and able to work on both local and away promotions as and when required.

How many people usually work during a shift?

Staffing levels really depend on the centre, but the usual number of staff on a studio is 3. Sometimes in really busy centres or peak periods we will have 4 staff, and smaller locations as little as 2.

How does Gotcha! attract customers in the shopping centre?

We pay for premium locations within the walkways of shopping centres. These locations have very high traffic-flows of customers walking past. Our job is to approach every potential customer who has a child in tow, and encourage them to have a photography shoot with Gotcha!

Are COVID-19 vaccinations mandatory?

It depends which state you work in. Because this situation is changing rapidly, the best way to check this is to call the COVID hotline in your state, and check if vaccinations are mandatory for retail workers.
